Audition Requirements *Please prepare 16-bars of a song in the style of the show**. You must bring the sheet music in the key in which you intend to sing. An accompanist will be provided. **The score for City of Angels is jazz inspired. Suggested composers include: Leonard Bernstein (On the Town and Wonderful Town), Jerry Bock (Fiorello and She Loves Me), George Gershwin, Frank Loesser (Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed in Business…), Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers (his work with Lorenz Hart only). Your song selection does not need to be from a musical, but it should have been written prior to 1965, and it should be in the style of the show. *If you would like to be considered for “Stine”, “Stone”, “Buddy”, “Jimmy”, “Bobbi/ Gabby”, “Donna/ Oolie”, or “Mallory” you may also prepare one of the music sides you will find in the back of the script (in a green binder) on reserve in the music library. You will be permitted to hold the music in the audition. If you are not sure for which role you are most well suited, you may prepare sides for more than one character. Please follow all instructions when preparing sides. You may or may not be asked to sing all sides you prepare. SUGGESTED AUDITION ATTIRE: City of Angels takes place in the 1950s in Hollywood and NYC. For the most part these are fairly upscale, urban characters. The women during this time period wore skirts or dresses and heels, and the men wore button down shirts, slacks, and hard soled shoes (ie. not sneakers). In order to help yourself be seen within the context of the show, It is suggested that you dress in a similar fashion for this audition. (This does not mean dress in a 1950s costume ;-), just to look a little dressed up.) |
