Stine - A writer of fiction. Has trouble with commitment.  (Tenor/ High Baritone [G# to g1]). 
Stone – Stine’s protagonist in his crime novel.  A tough, private eye. (Baritone [G# to e1])

With the exception of Stine and Stone each actor is double cast.  One role in the “real” world and the other in the fictional world of the screenplay.

Double casting as follows:

Gabby – Stine’s wife.  Smart and sassy / Bobbi – Stone’s ex-wife.  (Mezzo [e-flat to f2])

Donna – Buddy’s Secretary / Oolie – Stone’s Secretary.  The eternal “best friend” (Mezzo [g to f2])

Carla Haywood – Buddy’s wife/ Alaura Kingsley – a femme fatal – Ava Gardner type – (Mezzo [g to e2])  

Avril Raines – a starlet/ Mallory Kingsley – Alaura’s stepdaughter – Veronica Lake type – (Mezzo [g# to c#2])

Buddy Fidler – Movie Director and Producer/ Irwin S. Irving – A sleazy movie mogul. (Baritone [c to e-flat1)

Pancho Vargas – An actor/ Lieutenant Munoz - A manipulative police detective.  Stone’s nemesis. (Tenor [d to f#1])

Jimmy Powers – A movie crooner/ Jimmy Powers – A movie crooner (Tenor/ Baritone with a strong falsetto [c to g1])

There are also a plethora of roles which will be cast out of the ensemble.  Some of these roles only require ensemble singing.    We may or may not hold callbacks for these roles. 
Total cast size 22 – 26 (approx. 11 - 14 men and 10 – 12 women)

Where possible we will also cast understudies for the roles, and a few swings (ensemble understudies) who will cover tracks in the ensemble).
In addition to reading the script and listening to the show, you may want to research Film Noir, Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s, and listen to Big Band Jazz and other jazz singers to help prepare you more fully for this audition.   There is a lot of terrific information on the internet and at the JMU Libraries.
